Medicare Supplement Plan F and Plan C will not be available to Medicare beneficiaries starting in 2020. People who turn 65 or become newly eligible for Medicare after January 1, 2020, will not be able to buy Plan F or Plan C.
The changes to Plan F and Plan C are due to the Medicare Access, and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) signed into law in 2015. This law prohibits insurance companies from selling Medicare supplement plans that cover the Medicare Part B annual deductible ($185) to people who will be new to Medicare in 2020 and beyond.
What If I Already Have Medicare Supplement Plan F or Plan C?
If you already have Plan F or Plan C, you can keep your plan. The changes to these plans only affect people who will be new to Medicare in 2020 and beyond. Plan F and Plan C will continue to be available to eligible individuals who turn 65 or who are newly eligible for Medicare during all of 2019. Instead of purchasing a Plan F or Plan C this year consider Plan G. The only difference between Plan G and Plan F is that Plan G does not pay the Part B annual deductible of $185. You will save more than $185 a year with the lower premium Plan G offers.
